Betti Maldonado was a dedicated member and supporter of the Houston Hispanic Chamber for many years. Before becoming chair in 1995, Maldonado had already served as the chair for women’s initiatives for the Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce as well as served on various committees for the United States Hispanic chamber. She received the Business Woman of the Year awards from the Houston HCC, TAMACC and the regional Business Woman of the Year award and member of the year award from the USHCC.

Maldonado was instrumental in securing a contract from the City of Houston for the HHCC that created Prime Pro, a for profit subsidiary that recruited minority contractors for city projects.  She also led many business delegations to Mexico for the chamber and made sure that women played an important role in its activities.  In her public life, Maldonado served as a commissioner for the Houston Port Authority as well as the City of Houston’s Nafta Liaison.  She served on the board of directors and advisory board of many organizations including the March of Dimes, Cultural Arts Council of Houston, Texas Film Commission, Southwest Voter Registration Education Project and the Greater Houston Partnership.

Maldonado served as the president of De Colores Productions where she and her team produced commercials and public service videos and television programs including a 12 year running magazine show for KUHT.  She also founded Maldonado Consulting where she provided insight for clients on how to conduct grass-roots outreach and public relations targeting the Latino community.

Maldonado currently resides in California where she continues to work on television and radio projects focusing on the Latino community as well as marketing and public relations. She has also formed a national initiative that connects Latinas to power and influence.
