PROFESSIONAL & PERSONAL BACKGROUND OF JOSE ADÁN TREVIÑO
Mr.Treviño served as Chairman of the Board of the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (1992) and is currently a Chairman Emeritus of the organization. From 1994 to 1996, he served as Chairman of the Board of the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. He is the owner and manager of Amex Professional Drugs, Inc. and Amex Investments, Inc.
In 1976, Mr.Treviño formed Pueblo Broadcasting Corporation (KXLN-TV Channel 45) as the local affiliate of Univision Television Group, Inc. Under his leadership, the television station became a leader in the Hispanic broadcasting industry, and was recognized as the Fastest Growing Hispanic Business in the United States by Hispanic Business Magazine in 1989, and as the Second Fastest Growing Business in Houston by Inc. Magazine in 1990. In 1994, Univision purchased the station back from Mr.Treviño, and Mr.Treviño then became Sr. Vice President/General Manager of Univision until 2001, when he retired from Univision.
While getting KXLN-TV Channel 45 off the ground, Mr.Treviño also served as President, Trevino, Beck & Associates, P.C., a pharmaceutical consulting and management firm. From 1985 to 1986, he served on the faculty of the University of Texas College of Medicine.
In terms of professional affiliations, Mr.Treviño serves as Chairman of the Texas State Securities Board, as a member of the Houston Racing Commission, and as a member of the Advisory Council of the Pharmaceutical Foundation of the University of Texas – Austin, on the Board of Directors of Laredo National Bank; and has served on the board of directors of First Interstate Bank of Texas (1994-1996), Alliance Capital of Houston (1993-1996), on the Governor’s Business Council (1994-2001), as President of the Texas Pharmaceutical Association (1980-1981), and as Chairman, House of Delegates Texas Pharmaceutical Association (1975-1976). He is also a member of the American College of Apothecaries.
In terms of community service, Mr.Treviño is a member of The Chancellor’s Council-University of Texas-Austin; serves on the Board of Trustees of Baylor College of Medicine; the board of directors of the Institute of Mexican Culture, the Houston International Festival Foundation (served as Chairman from 1997-1998), and Sembradores de Amistad Educational Foundation (served as Chairman from 1999-2002); and has served on the board of directors of the Greater Houston Partnership, the World Trade Division, Greater Houston Partnership, the Institute of Hispanic Culture, United Way of Texas Gulf Coast, and the Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan Houston. He is also a member of the Go Tejano Committee of the Livestock Show and Rodeo.
During his distinguished career, Mr.Treviño has received numerous awards, such as One Hundred Most Influential Hispanics in the United States, presented by the Hispanic Business Magazine (1993, 1994, 1995); the “Lifetime Achievement Award” presented by the Houston Association of Hispanic Media Professionals; the “Samaritan Spirit Award” presented by the Samaritan Center for Counseling and Education; the “Ohtli” Award presented by the Consulate of Mexico and the Government of Mexico; the “Distinguished Citizen” Award presented by the Houston Area Council of Boy Scouts of America, Hispanic Scouting Committee; the “Outstanding Media Award” presented by the TAMACC (Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce); the “Outstanding Entrepreneur” presented by the National Association of Investment Companies; and Businessman of the Year by the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Mr.Treviño holds a Bachelor of Science from the College of Pharmacy at the University of Texas – Austin.
