Experts and members of Houston's business community see Fidel Castro's death as a symbol of increased opportunities to expand U.S.-Cuba and Houston-Cuba trade relations, despite uncertainty over what that relationship will look like under a Donald Trump presidency.

"We are still hopeful that we will normalize relations with Cuba in the near future," Port Houston Commissioner Theldon Branch said, adding that the Port of Houston Authority continues to view Cuba as a future long-term partner.
